Place Where the Souls of Martyrs Are Alive

The Fatherland Liberation War Martyrs Cemetery was built thanks to the ennobling moral obligation of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un to add eternal lustre to the heroic feats of the soldiers of the Korean People’s Army who had unhesitatingly sacrificed their lives to the struggle to defend the freedom and independence of the country from the US imperialists’ aggression.

Erected at the cemetery is a monument inscribed with part of a speech delivered by President Kim Il Sung, which reads, “The heroic feats the service personnel of the People’s Army performed in the Fatherland Liberation War and their immortal exploits will be recorded in golden letters forever in the revolutionary history of the Korean people and handed down to posterity. Kim Il Sung

The cemetery consists of the gateposts on both sides of a unique-style monument to the memory of the fallen soldiers of the People’s Army, a wreath-laying stand “Soul of heroes” and a monument of dedicated poem to the memory of heroic soldiers, group sculptures and nearly 600 tombs of martyrs.

Many people have visited it for the past ten years, since it was inaugurated in July Juche 102 (2013) to mark V-day.

Endless streams of people, regardless of occupation and age, are visiting it in the run-up to the 70th anniversary of the victory in the war.

Children are also visiting it led by their parents.

Visitors have a common feeling and determination.

Walking round the cemetery, they keenly realize the truth that there is a start of the lives of martyrs but no end in the embrace of the great leaders and the great Party that raise the feats and lives of the revolutionary soldiers to the highest position.

At the same time, they made up their mind to devote themselves to the struggle for defending the country and achieving its prosperity like the defenders of those great years.
