In 2012, the celebrations of the 66th anniversary of the founding of the Korean Children’s Union took place in the capital city of Pyongyang in an unprecedentedly grand style, involving more than 20 000 KCU members.
All people across the country extended congratulations and feelings of envy to the KCU delegates to the grand celebrations arranged under the warm care of the respected Comrade
Kim Jong Un.

At that time, a newspaper carried the following article about the selection of delegates to the celebrations held in South Hamgyong Province.
98.5% selected as exemplary KCU members are the sons and daughters of ordinary workers, farmers, service personnel and intellectuals and, among them, children of workers and farmers account for 81%.
Over a hundred children of miners at the Taehung Youth Hero Mine, the Ryongyang Mine and other mines under the General Bureau of the Tanchon Area Mining Industry, and those of the February 8 Vinalon Complex, the Hungnam Fertilizer Complex and the Ryongsong Machine Complex are honoured to take part in the celebrations of the 66th anniversary of the founding of the KCU to be specially recorded as a grand festival in the history of the country.

This kind of thing happened not only in South Hamgyong Province but also in other parts of the country.
KCU members selected as the delegates to the celebrations from all the primary and middle schools and branch schools across the country, ranging from schools in the remote mountain villages in the northern tip of the country to farm villages in the areas along the Military Demarcation Line and villages on far-flung islands were the sons and daughters of ordinary working people.

Kim Jong Un delivered a congratulatory speech at the joint national meeting of the KCU organizations in celebration of its 66th founding anniversary. He also enjoyed a concert together with the KCU delegates and had a photo session with them.
Looking back upon those days, the Korean people unanimously say that under the warm care of
Kim Jong Un who values working people most, their children have become the masters of all blessings.
