Law on Spring Water Management

The Ryongaksan Spring Water Factory is located in the area of Mt Ryongak in the capital city of Pyongyang.

From olden times, the area with beautiful scenery and clear water has been well-known across the country as many residents lived long.

The factory went into operation in Juche 96 (2007). It is associated with the loving care and benevolence of Chairman Kim Jong Il who showed his deep concern for supplying tasty and quality spring water to the people.

The Law of the DPRK on Spring Water Management was adopted ten years after the inauguration of the factory.

One September day in Juche 105 (2016), the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea, visited the Ryongaksan Spring Water Factory.

Looking it round, he stressed that providing people with spring water was not merely a matter of supplying them with drinking water but an issue of the serve-the-people spirit. He then specified the tasks arising in ensuring normal production at a high level, including the problems of taking a necessary measure for prompt transportation of spring water and scrupulously organizing the work of standardizing and diversifying the colours and shape of glass bottles.

That day, he paid a special attention to framing a law and regulations to evaluate the quality of spring water and control its production, and gave a detailed instruction to this end, stressing the need to analyze the quality of spring water and prohibit the production of spring water with no hygienic safety.

As a result, the Law of the DPRK on Spring Water Management was adopted.

Article 4 of the law stipulates that ensuring hygienic safety in production and supply of spring water is an important undertaking to protect the life and health of the people and that the state shall set a scientific standard of hygienic safety in production and supply of spring water and ensure its strict observation. This accurately indicates the principle for thoroughly ensuring the hygienic safety in the whole course of production and supply of spring water.

The Korean people were deeply moved to hear the story about his concern for the sake of the people’s health.
